Pet Diagnostics in Carmel, IN
The physical exam is intended primarily to examine your pet externally, but with our advanced pet diagnostic services, we can also examine your pet internally. These services include digital radiography, ultrasound, and in-house laboratory testing. Our goal is to obtain diagnoses as quickly as possible, because the sooner a diagnosis can be made, the sooner treatment can begin.
Ultrasound for Pets
We offer pet ultrasound services to help diagnose ailments and disease processes. Ultrasound technology involves using a device to create a 3D image of the internal structures in real time using sound waves. The procedure is completely non-invasive and painless. An ultrasound exam can be particularly useful in evaluating organs and regions such as the:
- Urinary bladder
- Gall bladder
- Pregnancy confirmation
In many cases, the ultrasound exam can be used in conjunction with X-rays to obtain the most accurate diagnosis.
Digital Radiography (X-rays)
Digital radiography allows for the fast transmission of high grade images to specialists and boarded radiologists to better help your pet. It’s also an important tool in diagnosing both orthopedic and soft tissue conditions, such as:
- Broken bones
- Lung or chest problems
- Abdominal or gastrointestinal problems
- Bladder stones
Radiography is generally performed while your pet is awake. However, in some situations, sedation is helpful in reducing pet anxiety and allowing for accurate positioning during the procedure.
In-House Laboratory Testing
Between our in-house laboratory and the professional reference laboratory we partner with, thorough and complete blood testing can be performed for virtually any problem or scenario. From routine pre-anesthetic blood testing to evaluation of complicated and/or unusual internal illness, we can obtain vital information in an efficient and timely manner, to better understand your pet’s unique condition, plan their care, and meet their needs.
Our advanced pet diagnostic services in Carmel are often recommended following an irregular wellness exam, but they can be used for healthy pets as well. For example, we perform pre-anesthetic blood work on surgery patients to check for underlying health issues. We also perform blood work to create a wellness profile for healthy pets.
